WordPress developer, ..
(( search box )) located here.

WPBeginer, gotta say here: that this website has some really cool stuff on it, and it ain’t just for beginners neither, but it does has a Noob approach to searching for stuff. It also has a very heavy emphasis on the over-use of paid Plugins in my opinion.

StackOverFlow, not a Noob in sight: except for some of the unresearched questions being asked, here be the questionable search box in, ..
(( question ))

The Mozilla support site is a right royal bitch to navigate, but it does have some real neat stuff on it to peruse. Downside, you do really need to know what you want to find — before even looking for it. The place is not Noob friendly at all, that said, it’s got shed loads of brilliant examples.

But above all, there’s the king ‘n’ queen of all searches, ..
Google itself.

** Remember, this stuff discussed here can kill your website stone dead, so only proceed with a current backup under your belt.

[ Age Gate, without a Plugin ]

How to make a quick and dirty Age Gate plugin.

That in actual fact, is not a plugin at all, but is something that’s been bolted directly into my theme, how you go about it is entirely up to you.

Why not use a Plugin?
Put simply: I simply don’t trust the many WordPress plugins out there that spy on you, and also track your users by default: they have to do this, to thusly get five start ratings and also provide you with a simplified upgrade-path to their overpriced Pro versions.

** This tutorial is, (as always), for any Developing Noobs out there.

None of it is mine (per-se) and has been pulled directly from:-
an Age Gate tutorial.

As usual, I’ve heavily modified the Google found wayward code for my own use.

The original scripts used three images, one was for the background that said (If you are under 21) etc .. which I haven’t included.
The other two where for the button jpegs, to which I’ve used.

Hell NO, get me the fuck outa hereHell yes, let me the fuck in

My own image bank also includes a non copyright (Blind Justice) image, that’s handily placed to the right of the popup form, just for a bit of fun.

a black and white lady scales of justice

The code itself comprises of thee parts.
1.) HTML for your ( footer.php )
2.) CSS Styling for your ( styles.css ) file
3.) A bit of JavaScript: that obviously goes anywhere inside your own JS file.

How it works.
Once a visitor goes to your site, (from any other internet location), the code checks for a cookie, mines called (IsAnAdult), but you can call yours whatever you want. I’ve also given the cookie a life span of a year, found in the JS var days=365;

If it’s found, then the visitor sees nothing, and your site loads as normal.
If it’s not there however, the popup is activated with two Buttons, one to reject and go elsewhere, with the other Button setting the cookie and loading the site as normal. I’ve also flared the Buttons with a bit of useless, but highly effective hovering fun.

Legal Considerations.
It’s not up to you, to ensure the legality of your visitors to view whatever it is you promote, the onus is on them to be honest.
You can ask for ID or their birth date if you want, but even that can be forged, or fudged.

Another consideration, if you make it too difficult for your new users to even get into your website to view it: then they won’t even bother, and will promptly go elsewhere.

Usage: the ( read more ) tags below open up the relevant code sections.
